Climate change as a global phenomenon is the subject of intense debate in various public spaces, from the scientific to the rumour level. Even though there is a scientific consensus on human contribution to climate change, there are still many misconceptions about it, and due to its nature, mass media overem phasises the harmful effects of global processes. The emotion it evokes is often a feeling of boredom on one hand,and anxiety and helplessness on the other. When the mass media keep saying that humanity is rushing to its end, it transmits hopelessness. A flood of misconceptions and fake news is targeting a large audience. In the 21st century, a significant source of information for many people is social media, which is a much less reliable source.(need to say what it is less reliable than, ‘a much less reliable source than…’ possibly ‘main stream media’ ? ) The ability to think critically is crucial and more important than ever before.
This MOOC offers you new educational approaches to the teaching of critical thinking and media literacy on (sounds strange, could it be ‘regarding’?) climate change.
