The changing role of teachers

This module is designed to help and guide educators to understand the changing role of teachers and the focus of schooling in the 21st century. How can teachers move from being knowledge holders to learning organisers? What is the role of Generation X and Generation Alpha students who have been socialised in the digital world, and what skills do they need?

The goals of the Module

This module aims to help you understand the new challenges teachers – and people in general – face today, as  the world around us is changing at a frantic pace.

This module is divided into 4 parts:

Part 1 – Changes in Teaching Perspectives
Part 2. – Competencies
Part 3 – The teacher’s role
Part 4  – Critical thinking and the role of the teacher

By the end of this module, learners are expected to:

1. Identify the most important competencies for a 21st century teacher.

Know the changing teaching environment and perspectives.

3. Be able to explore the role of teachers and the needs of students in contemporary life.
